Azadi – Freedom

Ein dunkler Raum wird nur vom Video einer Mutter erhellt. Dann bricht die Verbindung ab. Von diesem unterbrochenen Bild aus entfaltet sich Āzādi als poetische, politische und persönliche Solo-Performance über das Beobachten einer Katastrophe im Iran aus der Sicherheit Europas.



Arash Azarm verbindet Monolog, Bewegung, Live-Kamera, Projektionen, dokumentarische Fragmente, Text, Klang und Stille. Nachrichten, private Anrufe, Todeszahlen, Erinnerungen, bürokratische E-Mails, Clubnächte und Träume treffen aufeinander. Im Zentrum steht ein iranischer queerer Körper, der eine Grenze überquert hat, während Iran den Körper nie verlassen hat. Āzādi fragt, wie aus der Ferne getrauert werden kann, was Überleben mit Schuld macht und was Freiheit bedeutet, wenn der Körper sicher ist, aber der Kopf zu Hause bleibt.

Die Performance thematisiert staatliche Gewalt und Tod im Iran, Internet-Blackouts, Trauer, Exil, queere Verfolgung, psychische Belastung und Überlebensschuld. Sie enthält dokumentarische Bild- und Tonfragmente, Todeszahlen, Dunkelheit sowie plötzliche Licht- und Tonwechsel. Es wird keine plastische Gewalt gezeigt.

Āzādi is a solo performance about an Iranian body safe in Europe while Iran continues to live inside it.

A dark room is lit only by a video of a mother. Then the connection fails. From this interrupted image, Āzādi unfolds as a poetic, political and personal solo performance about witnessing catastrophe in Iran from the safety of Europe.



Arash Azarm brings together monologue, movement, live camera, projections, documentary fragments, text, sound and silence. News, private calls, death counts, memories, bureaucratic emails, club nights and dreams collide. At the centre is a queer Iranian body that crossed a border while Iran never left the body. Āzādi asks how mourning can happen from afar, what survival does to guilt, and what freedom means when the body is safe but the mind remains at home.

Content note: The performance addresses state violence and death in Iran, internet blackouts, grief, exile, queer persecution, emotional distress and survivor guilt. It includes documentary image and sound fragments, death counts, darkness, and sudden changes in light and sound. No graphic violence is shown.
