La Palabre #5 : Refusing, Embracing, Letting Go

Für die Reihe LA PALABRE lädt TALKING OBJECTS LAB von Juli bis Dezember 2023 in Berlin ansässige Forscher*innen, Künstler*innen und Aktivist*innen ein, um die Themen zu diskutieren, an denen wir in den letzten zwei Jahren im Rahmen von TALKING OBJECTS, einem künstlerischen Forschungsprojekt zur Dekolonisierung von Wissen, gearbeitet haben. In einer kleinen La Palabre-Gruppe von 40 Personen treffen wir uns und teilen Snacks und Geschichten.

Refusing, Embracing and Letting Go. Was tun mit den Institutionen? Kooperation oder Verweigerung? Um Sichtbarkeit kämpfen oder Dancing in the Dark? Wir möchten darüber sprechen, was es bedeutet, Dekolonisierung und Intersektionalität in Institutionen zu praktizieren. Welche Strategien gibt es – innerhalb und außerhalb der Institution? Und was bedeutet es, mit dekolonialen Projekten und als BIPoC Künstler*innen zu Gast in weißen Institutionen zu sein?

Isabel Raabe teilt Erfahrungen aus der Arbeit des Talking Objects Lab. Ibou C. Diop und David Frohnapfel sprechen über Diversity Work, Prozesse der Dekolonisierung, und über ihre Arbeit an deutschen Institutionen, sowohl in der Forschung als auch in der Museumspraxis – über Reclaiming, Blockaden, Scheitern, Hierarchien, Möglichkeitsräume, und Befreiung im Verlassen tradierter Strukturen. Für künstlerische Interventionen laden wir die Künstlerin Felisha Maria Carenage und die Poetin und Performerin Trovania ein. Kulinarische Kuration und Input sind an diesem Abend von Daeng Khamlao. LA PALABRE #5 wird moderiert von Miriam Camara.

For the LA PALABRE series, from July-December 2023, TALKING OBJECTS LAB invites Berlin-based researchers*, artists*, and activists to discuss the issues we have been working on over the past two years as part of TALKING OBJECTS, an artistic research project on decolonizing knowledge. In a small La Palabre group of 40 people, we meet and share snacks and stories.

Refusing, Embracing and Letting Go. What to do with the institutions? Cooperation or Refusal? Struggling for visibility or dancing in the dark? We want to talk about what it means to practice decolonization and intersectionality in institutions. What are the strategies – inside and outside the institution? And what does it mean to be a guest in white institutions with decolonial projects and as BIPoC artists*?

Isabel Raabe shares experiences from the work of Talking Objects Lab. Ibou C. Diop and David Frohnapfel talk about diversity work, processes of decolonization, and their work at German institutions, both in research and museum practice––about reclaiming, blockages, failure, hierarchies, spaces of possibility, and liberation in leaving traditional structures. For artistic interventions, we invite artist Felisha Maria Carenage and poet and performer Trovania. Culinary curation and input of this evening are by Daeng Khamlao. LA PALABRE #5 is hosted by Miriam Camara.
